CrickeOS Privacy Policy
Effective date: 31 August 2026 Developer: Cricke Contact: bobsbois7@gmail.com
CrickeOS is a launcher for the cover screen of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. This policy explains what information the app handles, what (little) of it ever leaves your device, and the choices you have. The short version: CrickeOS has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, and sells no data. The only data that ever leaves your device is an approximate location sent to a weather service, and only if you enable weather.
1. Who we are
CrickeOS is developed and published by Cricke ("we", "us"). CrickeOS is an independent third-party app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. or Google LLC.
2. No accounts, no ads, no analytics
- CrickeOS has no account system. You never register, sign in, or provide an email address to use the app.
- CrickeOS contains no advertising and no advertising SDKs.
- CrickeOS contains no analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not profile you, fingerprint your device, or measure your usage.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade any data - we could not even if we wanted to, because we do not collect it.
3. Data the app processes on your device only
To do its job as a launcher, CrickeOS processes several kinds of information entirely on your device. None of the following is transmitted to us or to anyone else:
3.1 Notification content
If you grant Notification access, CrickeOS reads the notifications posted on your device (titles, text, sender names, icons, images, and media-playback and call information) so it can display them on the cover screen, let you dismiss them, and let you reply. This content is processed and displayed on-device only. It is never uploaded, logged remotely, or shared with any third party. Notification data lives only in the app's working memory and is discarded when the notification is dismissed or the service stops.
3.2 Installed-app inventory
CrickeOS reads the list of launchable apps installed on your device to build its app drawer, favorites, and folders - exactly like any home-screen launcher. This list never leaves your device.
3.3 Settings and personalization data
Your layouts, widgets, themes, clockface choices, pinned apps, and preferences are stored locally in the app's private storage. If you set an app-lock PIN, it is stored only as a salted hash on your device.
3.4 Optional accessibility service
CrickeOS offers an optional accessibility service that provides a smoother cover-screen experience (it lets the cover interface stay visible over apps that use secure display flags, and detects when an app you launched has closed so the launcher can reappear). It is off by default, is enabled only after you review an in-app disclosure and give explicit consent, and can be turned off at any time in system settings. Information the service observes (such as which app is in the foreground) is used solely on-device, in real time, to operate the cover screen. It is never stored persistently, transmitted, or used for any other purpose. The core features of CrickeOS work without this service.
4. Data that leaves your device: weather (approximate location)
If you enable the weather feature and grant location permission, CrickeOS requests your approximate (coarse) location from the system and sends it - reduced to roughly city-level precision - to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a weather data provider, to fetch your local forecast.
- Only approximate coordinates are sent. No name, identifier, account, or other personal data accompanies the request.
- Open-Meteo requires no account and no API key; requests are made anonymously over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
- We do not store your location, and we never receive it - the request goes directly from your device to Open-Meteo.
- Weather is entirely optional. You can decline location permission and instead type a city name manually, or not use weather at all.
Open-Meteo's own privacy policy is available at https://open-meteo.com. Weather data is provided by Open-Meteo.com.
5. Microphone and voice reply
If you use voice reply, CrickeOS requests microphone permission and passes your speech to your device's built-in Android speech recognition service (SpeechRecognizer) to turn it into text. CrickeOS itself never records, stores, or transmits audio. Speech-to-text is performed by your device's system speech service (typically provided by Google or Samsung), which is governed by that provider's privacy policy and your device's speech-recognition settings. The resulting text is inserted into your reply and sent through the messaging app the notification came from - never to us. Microphone access is optional and only requested when you tap the voice-input button.
6. Permissions summary
| Permission | Why CrickeOS asks | Where the data goes |
|---|---|---|
| Display over other apps | Required - renders the launcher on the cover screen | Nowhere; on-device rendering |
| Notification access | Show, dismiss, and reply to notifications on the cover | On-device only |
| Approximate location (optional) | Local weather | Anonymous request to Open-Meteo |
| Microphone (optional) | Voice reply via the system speech recognizer | On-device system service |
| Bluetooth (optional) | Show connected audio devices in the media bar | On-device only |
| Accessibility service (optional) | Smoother cover experience (see 3.4) | On-device only |
7. Children
CrickeOS is a general-audience utility app directed at adult owners of a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). Since the app collects no personal data and has no accounts, no child-specific data can accumulate. If you believe a child has somehow provided personal information to us, contact us at bobsbois7@gmail.com and we will delete it.
8. Data retention and deletion
We retain nothing, because nothing is collected by us. All app data (settings, layouts, PIN hash) lives on your device and is deleted when you clear the app's storage or uninstall it. Weather requests are ephemeral and not stored by the app.
9. Security
The little data that leaves your device (weather requests) is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. Everything else stays in the app's private, sandboxed storage on your device, protected by Android's application sandbox.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live (e.g., under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data. Because CrickeOS collects no personal data and maintains no records about you, there is typically nothing for us to produce or delete - but you can always contact us at bobsbois7@gmail.com with any privacy question or request, and we will respond.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy - for example, if a future version adds an optional feature that handles data differently - we will update this page, revise the effective date above, and, for material changes, note the change in the app's update notes before it takes effect. The current policy always lives at this URL.
